We are a progressive and inclusive congregation celebrating 130 years of service to Kansas City. Affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we strive to live out our Disciples identity as a “movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.” Community’s diverse membership comes from all over the Metro and we welcome each person as a beloved child of God. We are a group of people practicing God's radical, inclusive, real love together.

Throughout our history, Community members have shared their time, talents, and treasures in various ways. In 2012, the following statements were adopted to express our identity of the congregation: Worshipping Joyfully, Celebrating the Arts, and Doing Justice. You are invited to join with us in following these core tenets as we practice God's radical, inclusive, real love together.

Worshipping Joyfully

We worship joyfully in Community on Sunday mornings at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Our 8:30 am service in Bonfils Chapel is a service of personal service with jazz music and prayer.  Our 10:30 Celebration Service takes place in our Frank Lloyd Wright designed sanctuary and is also live-streamed at the link below. Both services are traditional in style yet progressive in theology. Communion is shared and everyone is welcome to receive God’s gifts of love and grace.

Worship With Us

Celebrating the arts

We celebrate the arts in a variety of ways at Community. Music is a big part of worship each week. We also have our very own Artist-in-Residence on staff who transforms our holy space each week.

Community is also home to the Steeple of Light art gallery. This gallery has rotating exhibits that feature local artists and regularly hosts events with some of the finest musicians in the city.

Celebrate the Arts

Doing justice

Finally, we are a congregation with a rich history of doing justice. Our outreach to the city includes our food pantry which serves our neighborhood four times a month. In justice, we support racial and economic equity and we work for full inclusion and affirmation of all LGBTQ+ people. Learn more about our Justice and Mercy work below.
